NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Residents at Ferndale Mobile Home Park have reached an agreement with the property’s new owner, New Tide LLC, providing more time and financial support as families prepare to relocate.
Original Relocation Deadline
Residents were initially told to vacate the park by May 31 after the land was sold to New Tide LLC. Many residents said the deadline was unrealistic given the high costs and logistics of moving a mobile home, including permits, transport, utility hookups, and contractor work. Incentives of $1,000 for early relocation were deemed insufficient by residents.
Agreement and Support
After organizing through the Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union, residents negotiated directly with New Tide LLC President Antonio Ribeiro. The new agreement extends the relocation deadline to July 22 and includes $70,000 in relocation assistance. Funds will be distributed to union members through a nonprofit third party.
Community Impact
The union, representing a majority of households in the park—including renters and homeowners—said the agreement ensures families can relocate with “greater stability” and maintain “power and dignity rather than desperation.” Many residents are elderly, disabled, or living on fixed incomes, making additional support critical amid North Charleston’s ongoing affordable housing crisis.
