SOUTH CAROLINA — A 56-year-old woman from Huger died on Saturday after strong winds reportedly lifted an umbrella at the Driftwood Grill, Home of the Lazy Gator, during severe storms in Clarendon County.

Details of the Incident

Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley told News19 that wind caught an umbrella at the restaurant, resulting in a fatal neck injury. The incident occurred as sudden severe weather moved through the Lake Marion area.

Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell confirmed the woman died at the scene. Her name has not yet been released publicly. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine additional details surrounding the death.
