Storm Team 3: Stormy Memorial Day weekend; hot and unstable following week

Scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry throughout Memorial Day weekend.

Saturday Forecast

Some storms may become strong to severe, especially in the afternoon and evening. The main threat is damaging wind gusts over 50 mph. It will also be a breezy day even if storms do not develop.

Beaches in Georgia and South Carolina have a moderate risk of rip currents due to a strong south/southeast breeze.

Sunday Outlook

Storms are expected to redevelop late Sunday morning and continue through the afternoon, bringing pockets of heavy rain and minor flooding in areas with poor drainage. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s, with breezy conditions and gusty winds as the main concern.

Memorial Day (Monday)

Scattered storms are forecast in the afternoon, but fewer than on Saturday and Sunday. Morning lows will be in the lower 70s, with highs warming into the upper 80s to lower 90s. While a few strong storms are possible, organized severe storms are not expected.

Extended Forecast

Rain and storm chances slightly decrease Tuesday through Friday, but do not disappear entirely. Temperatures will remain above normal, with lows in the lower 70s and highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
