Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) impounded a dozen mopeds, motorcycles, and modified e-bikes at Moultrie Middle School on Thursday morning after discovering that students were riding them illegally.
Illegal Operation and Safety Concerns
Authorities said many of the vehicles were being operated by underage and unlicensed riders, creating serious safety risks for the students as well as other motorists and pedestrians.
MPPD reminded parents and guardians of their responsibility to ensure children operate vehicles lawfully. They noted that what may appear to be an e-bike could legally be classified as a motorcycle in South Carolina, which requires a license, insurance, and registration.
Vehicle Pickup
Parents or guardians can retrieve the impounded vehicles at MPPD Headquarters located at Town Hall.
