A student was taken into custody Thursday morning for allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to Chicora Elementary in North Charleston, authorities said.
Discovery of the Firearm
School staff, with the help of a security officer, secured the student’s bookbag after noticing the firearm inside. The handgun was identified as a 9 mm, and officials confirmed that no threats were made.
Charges and Safety Measures
The student was arrested without incident and charged with possession of a weapon on school property and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
