A Rock Hill mother is demanding justice after her 19-year-old daughter, Camariya Tidwell, was shot and killed outside their home in what police are calling a senseless act of violence. Authorities say Tidwell was not the intended target.
The Shooting
The shooting occurred Saturday night outside the family’s home on Mount Gallant Road. Investigators say 34-year-old Sean Xavier Hubbard fired into the yard, striking Tidwell. The family believes the incident followed an earlier shooting at their home last Tuesday, when four shots were fired into the house.
Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department said officers responded to the initial incident with eight officers and worked to identify a suspect. They tracked a vehicle and a potential address but were unable to locate Hubbard before the fatal shooting.
Family’s Account
Tidwell’s mother, Shifarnia McCullough, described her daughter as “bright, intelligent, loving, and compassionate.” She said the family felt unsafe in their home and had asked police for protection, but only one officer was available briefly before the suspect returned.
Justice Sought
McCullough called the shooting “pure evil” and expressed her demand for justice, saying the man “took my daughter’s life.” Police have arrested Hubbard in connection with the killing, and the investigation is ongoing.
