A woman was detained after fentanyl and meth were seized during a motel patrol in North Charleston

On Saturday at around 1:05 p.m., North Charleston police patrolling the Rodeway Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road noticed a woman slumped over the steering wheel of a parked car. The woman, identified as 48-year-old Tara Vaughn, had prior contact with officers earlier this year related to narcotics use.

Search and Evidence

When questioned, Vaughn admitted to having needles in the back seat. She handed officers a bag containing needles, caps, cotton, and a blue substance. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed:

  • About 0.75 grams of a white crystal-like substance (methamphetamine) in the center console
  • Approximately 0.17 grams of blue powder (fentanyl)
  • About 0.26 grams of blue rock-like substance (fentanyl) in a folded note card

Charges and Booking

Vaughn was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine. She was taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center.
