Coroner identities the victim of Sunday's deadly shooting on King Street

Incident Details

The Charleston Police Department reported that officers responded to a shooting near Burns Lane, connecting Meeting and King Street, around 2:33 a.m. Three people were found with gunshot wounds; one later died, and the other two, struck as bystanders, are expected to survive.

Victim and Suspect

The Charleston County Coroner identified the deceased as 25-year-old Erick George of West Ashley. The shooting followed an argument between George and the suspect outside Gilroy’s Pizza Pub.

Charges and Investigation

Andre Ramon Nesbit, 35, of Charleston, was arrested and charged with murder, two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Police Statement

Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker said, “At this point in the investigation, we know this was not random, and it was not caused by the victims. This violence happened because of the suspect’s choices.”
