He'll never see the light of day': Man murdered mother of two just hours after he was freed on charges relating to the previous attack

A Nebraska man has been sentenced to decades in prison for killing his ex-fiancée inside her home just one day after bonding out of jail on earlier domestic violence charges.

Man Sentenced in Ex-Fiancée’s Murder

Casey Kindt, 55, received a prison sentence of at least 88 years and six months after pleading no contest to multiple charges connected to the February 2025 killing of 36-year-old Jamie Hagen.

The sentence could keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.

Victim Killed Inside Her Home

Investigators said Kindt broke into Hagen’s home in Seward, Nebraska, on Feb. 8, 2025, and shot her multiple times.

Police found Hagen dead inside a bedroom after responding to a disturbance call late that night.

Authorities said Kindt also attempted to kill himself after the shooting but survived.

Protective Order Was Already in Place

At the time of the murder, Hagen had a protection order against Kindt following earlier abuse allegations.

Court records said Kindt had previously assaulted and threatened Hagen and one of her daughters in December 2024.

After bonding out of jail, he allegedly continued contacting Hagen through another person despite the protection order.

Daughter Called 911

One of Hagen’s daughters was inside the home during the shooting and made the 911 call. She was not physically harmed.

Family Reacts to Sentence

Hagen’s stepmother said the sentence brought justice for the family, adding that Kindt would “never see freedom ever again.”

Charges Against Kindt

Kindt was convicted on several charges, including:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Firearm offences
  • Child abuse
  • Burglary
  • Domestic violence
  • Terroristic threats
  • Violating a protection order
