A mass shooting on Mother's Day in New Jersey kills two people and injures four more

Two people were killed and four others were injured after a shooting in Paterson, New Jersey, on Mother’s Day evening.

Shooting Near Liquor Store

According to authorities, police responded to reports of gunfire around 8:26 p.m. near Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue. Officers found six people suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 43-year-old man and a 29-year-old man later died at the hospital. The four other victims were reported to be in stable condition.

Investigation Ongoing

Reports said the shooting happened outside a liquor store and may have been a drive-by shooting. Investigators recovered dozens of shell casings from the scene.

No arrests have been announced, and police have not released information about possible suspects.

Officials React

Paterson Councilman Alex Mendez said he and volunteers nearby ran for cover after hearing gunfire, calling the violence “unacceptable.”

Mayor Andre Sayegh described the shooting as a “senseless act of gun violence” while noting that shootings in the city have decreased over the last two years.

Authorities said the investigation remains active.
