When will your kid come home so I may shoot him?': According to authorities, Grandpa threatened his daughter after shooting his grandson with birdshot for failing to store his fish home

A Minnesota man has been charged after police say he shot his 18-year-old grandson following an argument over a household chore.

Argument Turned Violent

According to investigators, 72-year-old Jonathan Boyd Berg became upset because his grandson had not stored a fish house. Police said the two argued, and Berg allegedly punched the teen before threatening to shoot his dog.

Family members told deputies Berg had also been drinking heavily and allegedly threatened earlier in the day to shoot his grandson.

Teen Shot with Birdshot

Police said the teen returned home later that night when a gunshot was fired through a window. His mother told investigators she found Berg sitting on a bed holding a smoking shotgun while her son screamed in pain.

Deputies later found the teen at a Dollar General store with injuries to his back consistent with birdshot wounds.

Charges Filed

Berg has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and reckless disregard. He is being held in the Crow Wing County Jail on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 14.
