A Sacramento man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly terrorizing residents in a local neighborhood while brandishing a knife and engaging in alarming behavior. Brian Mattson, 56, was arrested for criminal trespassing following a disturbing series of incidents involving multiple residents in the area.
The Disturbing Incident
On Thursday evening, Rebecca Breen captured a chilling moment on her Ring camera when Mattson appeared on her porch, holding a knife and making what appeared to be repeated stabbing motions.
Breen recalled the frightening experience to KCRA, saying, “We heard a loud knock and we looked in the Ring camera and we noticed that there was something very strange going on. It was terrifying. It was absolutely terrifying.”
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Lt. Amar Gandhi explained that deputies had received multiple calls from other residents reporting similar disturbing incidents. “He’s going out there literally thrashing on doors with knives,” Lt. Gandhi said, adding, “But fortunately, again, nobody was hurt. People were very smart in the sense of locking the doors, staying inside, and calling us.”
Mattson’s Arrest and Previous Criminal History
Mattson fled the scene when authorities arrived, but he was later found and arrested on Saturday morning. According to authorities, Mattson was on felony probation at the time of the incident. Despite his actions, he was only charged with criminal trespassing and released a few hours after being booked.
However, Mattson’s run-ins with the law didn’t end there. He was arrested later that same day after being involved in another trespassing incident.
Residents Speak Out
While Breen doesn’t believe her family was specifically targeted, she expressed her fear over the situation. “I do believe that we were a random target. I don’t think that we were specifically targeted, but I think it’s very scary because if it wasn’t us, it’s going to be someone else,” she said. “Clearly, he was not in his right frame of mind at all.”
Community Concerns
The unsettling events have left the community shaken, but authorities are thankful that the residents were quick to act by locking their doors and contacting the police. Mattson’s arrest has brought relief to the neighborhood, but the disturbing nature of the incidents has raised concerns about safety and mental health in the area.
