Students from across York County had the opportunity to demonstrate their utility line worker skills today during a high-energy Utility Line Worker Rodeo. The event allowed students to put their hands-on training and real-world readiness to the test in front of industry professionals and community partners, all while gaining valuable exposure to career opportunities in the energy sector.

A Competitive Display of Line Worker Skills

The competition featured students from Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center, York Comprehensive High School, Clover High School, and York Technical College. Participants showcased essential line worker skills including pole climbing, equipment handling, safety procedures, and teamwork. This unique event provided a competitive environment where students could apply classroom knowledge in a practical, hands-on way.

Industry Partners and Career Opportunities

Representatives from local utility companies attended the event, observing the students’ performance and interacting with them about potential career pathways in the energy industry. Duke Energy’s Generous Contribution

A significant highlight of the event was a generous $15,000 contribution from Duke Energy to York Comprehensive High School. This funding will support the continued growth and sustainability of the school’s line worker training program, ensuring students have access to the tools and resources they need to succeed in this critical field.
