A major house fire in North Charleston on Thursday evening has left multiple homes damaged, with officials now working to find out what caused the incident.
What Happened
Firefighters from the North Charleston Fire Department responded to a call around 6:30 p.m. reporting a structure fire near Cambridge Avenue and Azalea Drive.
When the first crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from one house. Soon after, they discovered that two other nearby structures located behind the main house had also caught fire. The situation quickly became serious as flames spread across multiple buildings.
Fire Response and Control
Firefighters worked for nearly one and a half hours to bring the fire under control. The flames were finally extinguished around 8 p.m.
During the operation, the North Charleston Police Department closed nearby roads to ensure safety and allow emergency crews to do their work without interruption.
Officials confirmed that:
- Three homes were affected by the fire
- One person was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution
- No major injuries were reported
Investigation Underway
Authorities have not yet confirmed how the fire started. According to Deputy Chief Christan Rainey, a fire investigator has been called to the scene to examine the origin and possible cause of the fire.
The investigation is still ongoing, and more details are expected once the inspection is complete.
