Austin Doucette, 24, from Maine, faces murder charges in the shooting death of his 23-year-old girlfriend, Mikayla Rose DeSantis, at their condo in Carrabassett Valley.

Incident Details

On Sunday evening around 7:30 p.m., Doucette called 911 twice, hysterically claiming a .45-caliber gun “accidentally went off” and shot DeSantis in the stomach/abdomen area. He met paramedics on Route 27 with her suffering multiple gunshot wounds; she was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland after initial treatment in Farmington but succumbed to her injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

Doucette sped from the Left Bank condo scene but was stopped and arrested the next night. A search found the gun on the couch, Blazer .45 shell casings, and reddish stains in his car alongside DeSantis’ phone. He reiterated the accident claim in custody before invoking his right to counsel; a separate 911 from his father’s girlfriend reported him fleeing police and threatening suicide.

Victim Background

DeSantis and Doucette, Connecticut natives together nearly eight years, both worked at Sugarloaf Mountain ski resort. Her brother’s GoFundMe describes her as heartfelt, a loving baker, crafter, painter, sister, and role model. Doucette’s attorney calls it a “terrible accident,” pending further details.
