A store clerk at 7-Eleven was arrested after allegedly stealing a winning lottery ticket from a customer, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Details of the Incident

In an attempt to play a sleight of hand, Kymron Royale Payne, 20, was charged Monday with intent to defraud and counterfeit game tickets, according to a news release.

How the Theft Occurred

On Nov. 27, 2025, investigators say Payne — while working at a 7-Eleven located at 3930 Hwy 17 N in Charleston County — deceived a lotto player by concealing the customer’s winning ticket on the counter behind the register while handing the player an old ticket in exchange.

Redemption of the Stolen Ticket

Payne later redeemed the $250 ticket at a South Carolina Education Lottery terminal, the release said.

Evidence and Arrest

Evidence against Payne was corroborated by video surveillance and witness statements, according to the release. Payne was booked into the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center.
