Berkeley County boat port will close for a big expansion project.

Santee Cooper is closing the William H. Dennis “Biggins” Boat Landing in Berkeley County, S.C., starting next Sunday (February 16, 2026) for a major upgrade project. It won’t reopen until spring 2027, allowing crews to safely handle heavy equipment, in-water construction, and excavation.

Project Highlights

This expansion targets boating growth in the area by boosting capacity and safety on the Tailrace Canal and Santee Cooper lakes:

  • Parking upgrades: Rebuilds the lot with added spaces, two make-ready lanes, and one disembarkation lane.
  • Ramp expansion: Doubles from two to four lanes.
  • New docks: Adds two staging docks with over 470 feet of space.
  • Fishing access: Builds two ADA-compliant piers, one at each end of the lot.
  • Other improvements: Better traffic flow and visitor safety.

Dan Camp Sr., Santee Cooper’s director of real estate and Camp Hall, called it a key upgrade for the community. Boaters should head to nearby alternatives like Cypress Gardens, Wadboo, or Ralph Hamer Sr. landings in the meantime.

This fits Berkeley County’s push to handle rising recreation demand—similar to recent public safety and infrastructure tweaks in the Lowcountry region you’ve followed. Want details on those alternate landings or similar SC projects?
