The city announces the closure of the North Charleston Fire Museum.

The North Charleston Fire Museum, a nearly 20-year-old tribute to firefighting history, is set to close permanently on February 14, 2026. The closure stems from private collectors reclaiming loaned fire apparatus, rendering operations unsustainable without a core collection.

Reason for Closure

The museum relied heavily on long-term loans of historic vehicles, many American LaFrance rigs—the largest restored collection of their kind. Recent recalls by owners, now listed for auction via RM Sotheby’s, left the facility without viable exhibits.

Visitor Information

Admission is free through the final day (Feb. 14) to encourage public visits and farewells. Since opening in 2007, it drew residents, students, tourists, and professionals for education and hands-on history. The city expressed gratitude to volunteers and partners.
