Coroner identifies the guy died in an early-morning Berkeley County collision.

Berkeley County Crash Update: The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified 21-year-old Summerville resident Enaj B. Vasconcellos as the driver killed during a police chase on Nexton Parkway near Grand Boulevard around 5:20 a.m. on January 30, 2026.

Incident Recap

Vasconcellos, driving a 2022 Chevrolet sedan westbound while evading authorities, attempted to pass a 2023 Honda SUV and veered into eastbound traffic, striking a 2018 Subaru SUV head-on. He died at the scene from crash injuries.
The Honda driver was uninjured; the Subaru driver, later named Mindy Collins, suffered severe injuries including broken bones and internal bleeding, and remains hospitalized in a coma.

Emergency Response

Pine Ridge Fire & Rescue, C&B Fire & Rescue, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and EMS attended; SCHP continues investigating the pursuit’s origin. No reason for the police chase has been disclosed.
