Blancamir Arias-Miranda, a 54-year-old mother of four, died from injuries sustained in a collision with an allegedly intoxicated driver in Astoria, New York City. The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on January 4, 2026, near Crescent Street and 30th Drive, when a 2009 Honda Civic struck her 2021 Hiboy electric scooter in the bike lane.​

She was ejected onto the roadway and rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals Elmhurst in critical condition, where she passed away on January 6. Driver Ryan Rampersaud, 29, remained at the scene uninjured but showed signs of impairment, including a smell of alcohol on his breath. He refused a Breathalyzer test, and vomit was found in his vehicle; he admitted to drinking two beers hours earlier.​
Charges and Investigation
Rampersaud faces charges of Vehicular Assault, Driving While Ability Impaired, Driving While Intoxicated, and Refusal to Take Breathalyzer.
