Deniqua Lovett, 34, from Miramar, Florida, was arrested on December 28, 2025, for child neglect causing great bodily harm after her girlfriend’s young son suffered multiple injuries while in her care. Medical examinations revealed the boy had a broken elbow, rib fractures at various healing stages, a traumatic head hematoma, burns near his ear, and other healed fractures consistent with non-accidental trauma.

Key Injuries and Explanations

The child was hospitalized on September 4, 2025, at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital with swelling to his head and elbow; Lovett claimed he fell off a playground slide, but surveillance video showed no such incident amid rainy weather. She attributed rib fractures to a July fall behind a bed and ear burns to a hot comb mishap during hair styling. An orthopedic surgeon noted the elbow injury predated the ER visit by at least two days.

Investigation Findings

Police reviewed texts from Lovett showing prior bruises and swelling on the boy in late August and early September. A skeletal survey confirmed additional healed fractures to his collarbone, forearm, and knee, prompting DCF to place him with his maternal aunt. Lovett has a history of domestic violence cases.

Bond was set at $100,000 during her Monday hearing, which she posted; no public next court date is available in reports. The charge is a second-degree felony.
