Heavy's Barburger will expand to the Isle of Palms in 2026.

Heavy’s Barburger, a beloved local spot known for its smash burgers, is expanding to a third location on the Isle of Palms. The new outpost at 1012 Ocean Blvd., formerly Papi’s Taqueria, aims to open in spring 2026.

The Isle of Palms site will mirror the menu from downtown Charleston and Daniel Island locations, featuring quarter-pound smash burgers made from Angus short rib, brisket, and chuck blends. Popular items include the signature Barburger with double patties, American cheese, fresh toppings, and house sauce, plus chicken wings, tenders, salads, soups, sandwiches like buttermilk-brined fried chicken, onion rings, and milkshakes. Cocktails such as margaritas (including nonalcoholic versions) and local beers will complement the “vibey” atmosphere with vintage music.

Background

Founded in 2022 by John and Brenda Haire, Heavy’s honors the husband’s grandfather, nicknamed “Heavy” for his community spirit in Northwest Florida. The casual neighborhood vibe emphasizes fresh, daily-made American fare without fuss. Existing spots at 1137 Morrison Drive (downtown) and Daniel Island draw crowds for their energy and quality.
