Boeing employees exchange jumbo aircraft for bicycles to cheer the local kids this holiday season

Boeing workers in North Charleston, S.C., paused their usual jumbo jet assembly on Friday to build around 300 bicycles for local children in the Lowcountry. About 75 employees participated in this ninth annual holiday event, donating their time to assemble the bikes for distribution through groups like the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and a local school.

Site Leader Scott Stocker highlighted the teamwork, noting the shift from airplane expertise to community giving for a great Christmas for kids. Boeing team member Bill Coats shared a personal motivation, explaining his childhood struggles inspire his involvement in providing for families in need.

Employee Frank Hatten emphasized that such community service is a core Boeing value, occurring frequently though often quietly across thousands of initiatives yearly. The event aligns with Boeing’s ongoing community engagement in South Carolina, where the company employs over 8,200 people and recently expanded its 787 Dreamliner facilities.
