Charleston, South Carolina — Charleston County is experiencing a troubling increase in overdose deaths, with overdoses documented on October 27 alone, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
Chris Cherry, Favor Lowcountry’s director of operations, emphasized the crisis’s widespread scope. “It’s just flooded out there,” he explained.
Cherry underlined the need of offering resources to persons suffering from substance use disorders. “A lot of times somebody just needs somebody to listen and of course like connecting them to resources,” Cherry told me.
Cherry, who has a personal history with addiction, celebrated three years of sobriety on November 7. He is aggressively engaging with community partners to address the situation. “All us community partners and organizations are always meeting,” he informed me. “We’re crunching data, you know, finding out where the need of it is.”
