Charleston, South Carolina – A coastal disturbance is gently moving towards the shore, bringing us some scattered showers as the weekend comes to a close.
The highest probability of rain will be along the coast until early afternoon; further inland locations will be dry throughout the day. Conditions will be mostly cloudy later today, with nightly lows hitting 70 degrees.
Wind gusts of 25-30 MPH are expected to continue for coastal areas through Monday due to an area of high pressure to our north and a coastal trough to our south.
Our current pattern continues to favor a significant rip current risk and an extended period of higher high tides. Minor to moderate coastal flooding is possible with today’s high tides (about 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.). The probability of significant coastal flooding – possibly to moderate or major flood stage – will increase during the next week due to a combination of favorable winds and an approaching Full Moon phase.
TROPICS: The National Hurricane Center is tracking two disturbances in the Atlantic basin: a weak region of low pressure in the Gulf and a tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic. Forecast models predict gradual development of the latter system as it approaches westward, possibly near to the Lesser Antilles, over the following week. We will continue to watch trends!
