Charleston County, South Carolina – A mother and son have been detained in connection with a spate of thefts that targeted neighbors.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office stated that it collaborated with the Edisto Police Department to arrest Dana Cooley and her son, James Austin Cooley, in connection with the alleged crimes.

According to the sheriff’s office, the couple pretended to be housekeepers and pet sitters in order to get access to residences while claiming to provide trustworthy services.

Once inside the victims’ houses, they allegedly took stuff from the unwitting customers.

The sheriff’s office stated that James Cooley has a history of similar actions.

“We are sharing this information to protect our community and encourage anyone who may have hired them for in-home services to review their property and report any suspicious activity or missing items to law enforcement immediately,” according to the sheriff’s office.
