Suspect injured following deputy-involved gunfire in the upstate

A suspect was injured after a deputy-involved shooting in the Upstate over the weekend. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Stegall Circle off White Horse Road in Greenville shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday.

When deputies responded to a call about a man trespassing on a vacant property there, they came across the suspect. The Sheriff’s Office claims the man armed himself with a weapon during the encounter, which resulted in a deputy-involved shooting.

According to preliminary reports, one deputy opened fire on the suspect, who was injured and taken to a local hospital. There is currently no update on the suspect’s condition.

SLED is investigating the shooting, as is standard procedure. The deputy has been placed on paid leave pending the investigation. The incident left no deputies injured.
