Moncks Corner, South Carolina. The Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department is mourning the death of one of its most respected leaders. Deputy Chief Jimmy Townsend died in the line of duty early Sunday at 3 a.m., leaving a legacy of courage, mentorship, and unwavering service.

Townsend’s firefighting career began in November 1990 with the Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department. Over the next 35 years, he established himself as a pillar of the Berkeley County emergency response community, known not only for his tactical expertise but also for his deep compassion and dedication to those he worked with.

“My office and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Moncks Corner Rural Deputy Chief Jimmy Townsend. Darnell Hartwell, the Berkeley County Coroner, described Chief Townsend as a true leader who dedicated his life to protecting others and serving his community.

The memorial service arrangements are still being finalized. Meanwhile, the department asks that the public keep Townsend’s family, friends, and fellow first responders in their thoughts and prayers.
