Columbia, South Carolina – On the Democratic side of the race for governor, Richland County state Rep. Jermaine Johnson is getting closer to announcing his candidacy after forming an exploratory committee in May.
Johnson stated that his consideration of a gubernatorial run is centered on bringing “bold, inclusive” leadership to the Palmetto State to focus on policies that “put South Carolinians first.”
Johnson was first elected in 2020 and now represents Kershaw and Richland Counties in the South Carolina House, where he has advocated for underserved communities, public education, criminal justice reform, and other issues.
Johnson spends some time in the studio with the Connect to the Capitol crew in this Extra, where he discusses his potential run and what he would focus on as candidate.
