North Charleston, South Carolina – An investigation is underway in North Charleston into an incident involving a juvenile and an officer.
The North Charleston Police Department said its officers responded to a disturbance involving an allegedly armed male at a CVS on Ashley Phosphate Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officials said the individual was detained despite a brief struggle and that no one was injured or a weapon was discovered. The juvenile was released to a parent after being charged with third-degree assault and breach of the peace.
There are few details about the incident, but the agency did report that videos of the officer’s interaction with the juvenile were being shared online.
“Body-worn camera footage is being reviewed, and the Office of Professional Standards has been notified,” the organization said. It continued: “We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and respectful engagement with the community.”
