If you’re looking for a great venue to have a memorable lunch, you might be in luck.
That’s because a restaurant in South Carolina has been rated one of the country’s top locations to go on a date.
Magnolias in Charleston is ranked No. 10 on a list of the best spots for a romantic night out, according to data published Tuesday, September 23.
To identify the fan-favorite restaurants, the travel website Tripadvisor claimed it evaluated the “quality and quantity of reviews and ratings” provided by customers for restaurants around the country. It focused on feedback that people provided online in the year preceding July 31.
“The Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel,” according to the website’s report. “It is given to those who receive a large number of outstanding evaluations and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of our 8 million listings, less than 1% reach this level.”
Why the SC Restaurant is Romantic
According to Tripadvisor, the best date-night restaurants in the country create “the mood for a night of wining and dining.” Magnolias was the only place in South Carolina to make the top ten.
Magnolias’ website states that it provides “upscale Southern cuisine,” which includes meals such as blackened catfish and fried green tomatoes. The restaurant in Charleston, a famous tourist attraction, was acknowledged after Tripadvisor users commended its ambiance and described it as a perfect site for celebrating anniversaries.
“Magnolias delivers a blend of polished charm, witty staff, and generous, always-balanced portions,” the travel website stated in its review. “Creative choices and decadent desserts pair delightfully with attentive, caring service.”
When Magnolias opened in 1990, it “ushered in a culinary renaissance” in Charleston. In 2022, the company battled to recover from coronavirus-related workforce shortages and a kitchen fire, according to The State.
In July, McClatchy News rated the restaurant on East Bay Street as one of the top places to eat fried chicken in the United States.
According to the most recent Tripadvisor rankings, Red Shoe Island Bistro in Key West, Florida, is the nation’s most romantic restaurant. South Carolina restaurants made the top ten on several travel website lists, such as the greatest fine dining locations and the most popular casual eateries.
