On Tuesday, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced grants totaling over $26 million to support crime victim services across the state.
The financing includes $7 million for private charity organizations that support police agencies by providing advocacy, shelters, and medical care to victims.
These monies will go toward projects that help victims of domestic violence and human trafficking, such as emergency shelters and transitional housing. The grants are projected to assist thousands in the Upstate region, with projects starting on October 1st.
The council approved the financing, which is from both federal and state sources, earlier this year.
“These state and municipal authorities, as well as charitable entities, do so much to assist those who are experiencing trauma. “With these funds, we can help agencies across the state assist victims of violent crime in their recovery,” Attorney General Wilson stated.
This cash will support emergency shelters as well as transitional housing for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
