Former Charleston County school bus driver dismissed for suspicious actions toward pupils

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, a school bus driver who previously worked in Charleston County was fired after complaints were filed regarding his behavior with pupils at a district elementary school.

According to a statement made by the Charleston County School District, the bus driver was hired to work at the Elementary School by First Student, one of the district’s outside transportation providers.

On September 3, officers were notified of suspicious activities involving the former Elementary School bus driver and a sixth-grade pupil.

The student stated that the individual would occasionally stop by at drop-off or dismissal and had came to visit during the student’s first period lesson. At one point, the former bus driver urged the kid to save his phone number and started texting him.

During a meeting with school officials and the student’s parents to discuss the issue, the parents revealed that the former bus driver had attended multiple school events where the student was present, and had even shown up at their home to request a photo of the student from one of the events.

When he was denied the photo, the individual reportedly came by the student’s class and asked the teacher to take a photo of the former chauffeur and student together.

A second student also reported receiving communications from the former bus driver, which continued until the first student reported the strange activity on September 3.

This second student told police about identical incidents as the first student, including the individual’s numerous visits to the student’s classroom.

When the behavior was reported on September 3, the bus driver was no longer running the Elementary School route, and once the Charleston County School District received the report, the driver was removed from duty.

CCSD reported the individual’s behavior to First Student, and they were fired from the company.

According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, no charges will be brought against the school bus driver.
