Sullivan's Island businessman returns to court for bond hearing

Charleston, South Carolina — Eric Bowman, a Sullivan’s Island businessman accused of several felonies such as harassment, stalking, and domestic abuse, appeared in a Charleston courtroom on Friday for a bond hearing and a bond revocation hearing.

Bowman was detained in August in connection with an alleged domestic dispute from 2016. He is also facing further charges related to allegations that he installed a tracking device on his estranged wife’s automobile.

Bowman’s former wife offered dramatic testimony at Friday’s hearing, detailing the suffering she claims she experienced during their relationship. Bowman’s attorney, Chris Adams, contended that the charges had a significant influence on his client’s life and asked the judge to release him on bond.

Adams also demanded tougher steps to keep both parties separated, citing safety concerns. Prosecutors argued that those safeguards were already in place.

The judge declined to rule on bond on Friday, citing the need for more time to study newly presented information. Bowman has been detained for about a month.

Adams contended that his client deserves the same chance as anyone else facing identical allegations.

“Charges for a zero to ten-year offense, which he is facing, practically everyone would be eligible for bond. However, a military person who was honorably discharged or who had little past criminal record would be released, allowed to work with their counsel, evaluate the evidence, and have a fair trial. “He is presumed innocent, so hopefully everything will work out and he will be released once we receive the order,” Adams added.

The judge is anticipated to issue an order on bond next week. Count on two updates on this evolving case.
