Last Friday, a home on Harbour Watch Court in Mount Pleasant became the scene of a chilling burglary. Around 3 a.m., a masked intruder broke into the home while the family slept. The resident only realized something was wrong a few hours later, after reviewing footage from his Ring security camera.
Suspect Arrested in Unrelated Charges
John Albert Williams III, the suspect in this case, was arrested the same day in Hardeeville on unrelated charges. Mount Pleasant Police later identified him through the security footage and are now moving forward with serious charges, including first-degree burglary and firearm-related offenses.
The Role of Technology in Identifying the Suspect
The security footage from the Ring camera proved invaluable, capturing every detail of the suspect’s appearance. Wearing a black ski mask with a white logo, a black hoodie, gloves, blue pants, and basketball-style shoes, the video helped law enforcement quickly identify and locate Williams. Despite stealing only a purse, the emotional toll on the family was profound, as the knowledge of an intruder in their home while they slept was deeply unsettling.
Fast Legal Action and Serious Charges
Williams faces significant charges, including first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited individual. He is currently being held at the Jasper County Detention Center, pending transfer to Charleston County.
Lessons Learned: Home Security Matters
This case underscores the importance of taking preventive measures to protect your home. Here are a few suggestions for keeping your home secure:
- Invest in Security Systems: Cameras and alarms act as deterrents and provide valuable evidence in case of a break-in.
- Stay Aware of Your Neighborhood: Joining or forming a neighborhood watch group can help create a sense of shared responsibility.
- Secure Entry Points: Ensure doors, windows, and garages are always locked, and consider reinforcing sliding doors or adding a doorbell camera.

The arrest of John Albert Williams III brings some relief to the Mount Pleasant community, but it also serves as a reminder that burglaries can happen anywhere.
