Charleston Beach Olympics Returns to Sullivan’s Island – Supporting Pattison’s Academy in a Big Way

Published On:

Mark your calendars – the Charleston Beach Olympics is back for its fourth year on Saturday, June 8, 2024, bringing sun, sand, and a whole lot of friendly competition to Sullivan’s Island! This exciting annual event not only promises a day of fun and beach games, but it also supports an incredible cause: helping to cover tuition for students attending Pattison’s Academy Therapeutic Summer Camp.

Thirty randomly drawn teams of four will go head-to-head in Olympic-style beach games like sack races, relays, mind challenges, and more – all for bragging rights and a mission that matters. The games kick off at 1 PM sharp at Station 22 on Sullivan’s Island, with eight exciting events along the beach and two epic finales to close out the day.

After the sand settles, the celebration continues at Mainland Container Co. Kitchen and Bar, where participants can enjoy:

  • A free drink ticket
  • A complimentary buffet
  • A loaded swag bag filled with local goodies and exclusive discounts
  • A raffle, awards ceremony, and a fun-filled after party open to friends, family, and the public

Why It Matters

Pattison’s Academy is a year-round education and rehabilitation center in Charleston that serves children and young adults with severe disabilities. Their Therapeutic Summer Camp is the only one of its kind in the Lowcountry, providing essential care and therapies (speech, occupational, physical, and more) during the summer months — a time when families often struggle to find affordable support.

The camp receives no program revenue, relying 100% on community donations to cover the $2,000 per student tuition. Last year, the Charleston Beach Olympics raised over $10,000, helping many local families access the care their children need. This year, organizers aim to raise $16,000, enough to send eight deserving campers to the program.

Whether you’re in it to win or just want to soak up the vibes and cheer on your friends, the Charleston Beach Olympics is the perfect way to have fun and give back. Don’t miss out on the beach event of the summer – sign up, show up, and support a cause that truly makes waves in our community.
