A traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Gaston County, North Carolina, resulted in the seizure of more than 12 pounds of black tar heroin, valued at approximately $500,000.
Traffic Stop Details
Officers stopped a vehicle Tuesday afternoon on I-85 northbound near Exit 14. During the stop, five wrapped packages of suspected narcotics were discovered hidden inside the vehicle.
Drug Identification
The seized drugs were later identified as black tar heroin, which authorities say is increasingly rare in the region due to fentanyl dominating the illegal drug market.
Arrest
The driver, 34-year-old Avimael Moreno Perez, a Mexican national, was arrested and is being held without bond at the Gaston County Jail.
