Sonic murder suspect is extradited to Summerville after escaping to Indonesia

A major development has come in a murder case from Summerville, where a suspect who fled the country has now been brought back to the United States. The case involves a deadly shooting that happened earlier this year and led to an international search.

What Happened in the Original Incident?

The case goes back to January 9, when 18-year-old Kymani Baker was shot and killed outside a Sonic Drive-In on Dorchester Road.

The shooting happened early in the morning and caused nearby schools to go into lockdown as a safety measure. Investigators later linked the incident to earlier events, including a shooting near another location and a burglary connected to the victim.

Suspect’s Escape and International Travel

Police identified Anthony Prioleau, 20, as the main suspect. Authorities say he left the state about a week after the shooting and began a plan to leave the country.

According to investigators:

  • He travelled to Washington, D.C.
  • He obtained a temporary passport
  • He then went to New York City
  • From John F. Kennedy International Airport, he boarded a flight to Jakarta, Indonesia

This international movement made the case more complex and required cooperation between different agencies.

Arrest in Indonesia and Return to the U.S.

Authorities said that when Prioleau arrived in Indonesia, immigration officers approached him. He allegedly tried to run but was caught and taken into custody.

After being held by Indonesian authorities for some time, he was handed over to U.S. officials. He was brought back to the country and taken into custody at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Additional Arrest in the Case

Police have also arrested another individual in connection with the case. Roger Daniel Jr., 34, has been charged as an accessory after the fact of murder.

Investigators allege that:

  • He helped in planning or supporting the suspect’s escape
  • There were messages linking him to travel plans and financial help
  • He had searched online about evidence and investigations

Current Legal Status

Anthony Prioleau has been denied bond and is currently being held in custody. He faces serious charges, including murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

The case is still under investigation, and more details may come out during court proceedings.
