A high-speed police chase in North Charleston, South Carolina ended with an arrest early Tuesday morning, raising concerns about road safety and illegal activity.
What Happened During the Chase
According to the North Charleston Police Department, the incident began around 2:30 a.m. when an officer tried to stop a vehicle for running a red light.
Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, leading police on a dangerous chase. Authorities said the suspect drove recklessly, nearly hitting other vehicles while moving through local roads and onto Interstate 26.
Items Thrown During Pursuit
During the chase, the suspect reportedly threw objects out of the vehicle near the Cosgrove Avenue exit. This added another layer of concern, as officers later had to search the area for possible evidence.
Arrest of the Suspect
Police eventually stopped the vehicle after multiple units surrounded it. The driver followed commands and was taken into custody without further resistance.
The suspect has been identified as Curtis Quamae Woodfield, aged 35.
Charges and Findings
Woodfield is facing several charges, including failure to stop for blue lights and driving with a suspended license, second offense.
During the investigation, officers recovered:
- A loaded firearm
- Around 5.8 grams of suspected marijuana
Authorities also confirmed that Woodfield is not legally allowed to possess a firearm. Investigators are still working to confirm ownership of the weapon.
Previous Record and Ongoing Investigation
Police noted that Woodfield has prior offences related to similar charges. He has been booked into a local detention centre, and the case remains under investigation.
