A York County deputy has been named DRE of the Year for the second time.

Lance Corporal Christopher Anderson of the York County Sheriff’s Office has been named the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) of the Year for the second time by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) of South Carolina. Anderson received the prestigious Rick Moore Drug Recognition Expert of the Year award for his exceptional work in combating impaired driving and his dedication to identifying and apprehending drug-impaired drivers.

Recognizing Expertise and Dedication

Anderson’s recognition marks a significant achievement in his career, as he previously won the same award in 2024. His expertise in drug recognition and his tireless efforts in keeping impaired drivers off the roads have made a lasting impact on public safety in York County.

Sheriff Tony Breeden expressed his pride in Anderson’s accomplishments: “We are proud of this accomplishment, which is another example of our commitment to protecting the county by keeping impaired drivers off the roads. This also serves as a testament to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism at the YCSO.”

About the Drug Recognition Expert Program

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) is a specially trained police officer who can identify drivers under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to, alcohol. The program, which is supported by MADD, plays a crucial role in addressing impaired driving, helping law enforcement officers detect drug impairment and ensure that dangerous drivers are removed from the roads.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending underage drinking and impaired driving. By partnering with law enforcement agencies, MADD works to reduce the number of alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers on the roads, ultimately enhancing safety for all drivers and pedestrians.

Lance Corporal Anderson’s recognition as Drug Recognition Expert of the Year highlights his continued dedication to this important cause, making him an invaluable asset to the York County Sheriff’s Office and the community.
