NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Two men were arrested on Saturday evening following a heated argument that escalated into an altercation involving both a firearm and a machete. According to the North Charleston Police Department, the incident took place on Dutton Avenue and led to charges of assault for both individuals involved.
Argument Turns Violent
The altercation began when 39-year-old Jeremy Brice Wheeler of North Charleston and 20-year-old William Christopher Bronson of Walterboro returned from getting food. Witnesses reported that the dispute quickly escalated when one of the men picked up a machete, and the other drew a firearm.
Escalation and Injury
Despite one of the men placing the machete in the trunk of a truck, the situation remained tense. The man with the firearm confronted the other, and at some point, struck him on the side of the head, causing an injury. This led to a physical fight where both men reportedly wrestled on the ground while the gun remained involved in the altercation.
Arrests Made After Conflicting Accounts
When police arrived on the scene, they spoke to both suspects and witnesses, but the two men provided conflicting accounts of the events. Both men wanted to press charges against each other, and as a result, both Wheeler and Bronson were arrested and charged with assault.
The situation underscores how quickly arguments can escalate, especially when weapons are involved, and highlights the complexities of situations where both parties claim to have been wronged.
