A Moncks Corner woman has been arrested on multiple drug charges after police found suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine in her vehicle during a motel patrol in North Charleston.

The Arrest

North Charleston police said an officer spotted 48-year-old Tara Vaughn slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle at the Rodeway Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road around 1:05 p.m. on Saturday. The officer noted prior encounters with Vaughn related to narcotics earlier this year.

Search and Seizures

Vaughn admitted there were needles in the car. A subsequent search revealed:

  • 0.75 grams of a white crystal-like substance presumptively identified as methamphetamine
  • 0.17 grams of blue powder and 0.26 grams of blue rock-like substance, both presumptively fentanyl
  • Needles, needle caps, cotton, and drug paraphernalia

Charges and Booking

Vaughn was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine. She was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
