SPRING VALLEY, CA — Kandynn Wilson, 34, has been sentenced to life without parole plus one year for the brutal murder of his estranged wife, 29-year-old Ericka J. Wilson, outside her Spring Valley home in January 2022.

Details of the Attack

According to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Kandynn stabbed Ericka 23 times in the neck in a premeditated attack. He had traveled approximately 500 miles from Oakland, taking a “vacation day” from work, and initially hid outside the wrong location before finding Ericka at her residence.

A neighbor witnessed the attack and chased Kandynn with a bat, causing him to flee and abandon his glove, the murder weapon, and his vehicle. He was apprehended hours later, covered in the victim’s blood.

Conviction and Sentence

Kandynn Wilson was convicted in December 2025 of first-degree murder with a lying-in-wait special circumstance. He received life without parole plus an additional year in prison.

Statement from the District Attorney

District Attorney Summer Stephan emphasized the broader implications of the case, stating, “Intimate partner violence continues to be one of the most common and dangerous forms of violence we confront, and this case is a stark reminder of its devastating impact.

We must keep fighting to safeguard victims of domestic violence and hold their abusers accountable.”
