A Wisconsin mother, Christina Davis, has been charged with child neglect after her 1-year-old daughter was allegedly given Fireball whiskey to “help her pass out,” leading to the infant’s death. The incident occurred on February 22, 2026, when police responded to a report of a “pulseless, non-breathing child” at the home of Davis and her partner, Kevin McCall, in Milwaukee.
The Tragic Discovery
When police and firefighters arrived at the residence, they found the couple standing on the front porch with the lifeless infant. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the child was pronounced dead shortly after.
Davis’ 6-year-old daughter from a previous relationship reportedly told police that she often had to help care for her younger sibling when the adults were away.
Allegations and Investigation
According to the criminal complaint, Davis and McCall woke up around 9:30 a.m. on the day of the incident and ensured the children were asleep before leaving the house. They went out to get food, and after Davis left for work, McCall allegedly stayed home with the children.
When Davis returned home around 2 p.m., she found her 6-year-old daughter being punished for stealing the TV remote, and McCall reportedly admitted to “whooping” the child.
Upon seeing McCall occupied, Davis went to check on her 1-year-old and found her “stiff” with her eyes rolling backward. She then instructed McCall to call 911. Investigators found the infant “covered in urine and feces,” and the home was described as unkempt with a “strong odor.”
The Fireball Whiskey Allegation
In interviews with detectives, Davis’ 6-year-old daughter claimed that McCall and Davis often asked her to babysit the younger child and had used a bottle of Fireball whiskey to make the baby “pass out.” The girl reportedly stated, “I don’t think it is medicine.
However, Davis denied giving the baby alcohol, claiming the child was only ever given “cold and flu medication.” She also suggested that her 6-year-old daughter was lying about the events.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
The medical examiner found no signs of trauma, illness, or infection that could explain the infant’s death. Both Davis and McCall were arrested and charged with two counts of chronic neglect of a child. They are being held at the Milwaukee County Jail on $10,000 bond.
McCall’s attorney, Russell Jones, issued a statement urging caution, stating that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. PEOPLE has reached out to Davis’ attorney for comment, and the investigation is ongoing.
