An Arizona woman was fatally shot outside her home in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide involving her ex-husband.

Woman Found Shot Outside Home

According to the Marana Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting on May 25 at a home on West Alegria Drive in Marana, Arizona.

When police arrived, they found 36-year-old Mikaela Durfey suffering from gunshot wounds near the driveway of the home.

Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ex-Husband Identified as Suspect

Authorities identified Durfey’s ex-husband, 37-year-old Brian Schnurr, as the suspected shooter.

Police said Schnurr allegedly fled the scene in a blue Dodge Challenger immediately after the shooting.

Local reports stated that the couple’s two young children, both under the age of 4, were present during the incident.

Children Found Safe Inside Vehicle

Officers later located the vehicle near North Silverbell Road and found the children inside unharmed.

With help from a sheriff’s department air unit, authorities searched the surrounding desert area and later discovered Schnurr dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police confirmed the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

According to local reports, Schnurr worked as a chiropractor while Durfey was a licensed counselor.

Court records reportedly show that Durfey had filed for divorce in July 2025.

Neighbors described the incident as shocking and tragic as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police said the investigation remains active.
