A Florida influencer went viral after receiving a distracted driving ticket for allegedly holding a phone in her “right hand” — despite not having a right hand.
Influencer Pulled Over for Distracted Driving
Katie, who is known online as “Slightlyoff.balance,” shared the incident on social media after being stopped by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Feb. 11.
According to the citation, the deputy claimed Katie was holding a phone in her “right hand” while driving on North Dixie Highway.
However, Katie is an adaptive athlete who was born with a limb difference and does not have a right hand.
She was still issued a distracted driving citation under Florida law and fined $116.
Video of Traffic Stop Went Viral
Days later, Katie posted a TikTok video explaining the situation, and the clip quickly gained attention online.
She later shared body-camera footage from the traffic stop, showing the deputy explaining the reason for the stop.
In the video, Katie lifts her right arm and responds, “Obviously not,” after the officer claimed he saw her holding the phone in her right hand.
The officer continued questioning her and eventually issued the citation.
Katie Fought the Ticket in Court
After social media users encouraged her to challenge the ticket, Katie documented her legal process online.
She appeared in court in April and pleaded not guilty.
Ahead of another scheduled hearing, she released the body-camera footage on TikTok and Instagram.
Citation Later Dismissed
According to local reports, the deputy later requested the citation be dismissed before the court hearing.
Katie confirmed on social media that the case was officially dismissed due to a “lack of evidence.”
The incident sparked widespread discussion online, with many users criticizing the traffic stop and supporting Katie’s decision to fight the citation.
