Alex Murdaugh was'sitting in his bed watching crime shows' before his wife and son were killed, claims the family housekeeper

LAS VEGAS, NV — Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson, longtime housekeeper for the Murdaugh family, shared new insights about Alex Murdaugh ahead of his retrial for the 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, during a CrimeCon 2026 panel in Las Vegas.

Housekeeper’s Observations

Turrubiate-Simpson recalled that Alex Murdaugh “was sitting in his bed watching crime shows” before the killings at the family’s Moselle estate in South Carolina on June 7, 2021. She also suggested that while Murdaugh may have acted alone, someone else could have helped clean up the scene, noting the family’s dogs were still barking when he called 911.

Background on the Case

Alex Murdaugh, once a prominent South Carolina lawyer, was convicted of murder in 2023. His conviction was later overturned after the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that a local court clerk had tampered with the jury. Prosecutors have indicated they intend to retry him.

Reflections on the Murdaugh Family

Turrubiate-Simpson, who worked closely with the Murdaughs for years and returned to the estate after another housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, died in a fall, expressed sympathy for the family. She noted that Paul Murdaugh, who faced trial for a boating incident resulting in Mallory Beach’s death, had been “villainized” by media coverage despite his generosity.

The housekeeper stated she does not maintain a relationship with the surviving Murdaugh son, Buster, who has largely secluded himself. She expressed concern about him as the family prepares for renewed scrutiny during Alex Murdaugh’s retrial.

Turrubiate-Simpson concluded, “None of us asked to be born into the families we were born in… He’s made a good life for himself, and now here we go again.”
