A 32-year-old man from the Dominican Republic, Moises Ricardo Peralta-Matos, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Worcester, Massachusetts, on February 25. Federal agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also took part in the arrest.
Peralta-Matos has a troubling criminal background, including a conviction for indecent assault and battery against a Massachusetts resident. ICE officials say he poses a clear threat to the safety of the local community.
ICE’s Statement on the Arrest
According to Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Boston, Peralta-Matos has repeatedly shown violent behavior and is considered a danger to the public. ICE Boston is continuing to focus on arresting and removing people who threaten the safety of New England neighborhoods.
History of Immigration and Legal Violations
Peralta-Matos first entered the United States legally on May 1, 2003, through New York City. However, he later broke the rules of his visa, which made him removable from the country.
His criminal history includes several offenses. On October 5, 2018, the Worcester District Court convicted him on two counts related to compulsory insurance violations. He was ordered to pay a fine for those charges.
More seriously, on December 16, 2024, Peralta was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a person aged 14 or older. Although he was sentenced to 545 days in prison, that sentence was suspended, meaning he did not serve time behind bars for that offense.
Then, on January 13, 2025, Peralta was arraigned again—this time for assault and battery on a family or household member. This latest charge increased concerns about his continued threat to the community.
February Arrest and Next Steps
With the help of federal partners from the FBI and ATF, ICE officers arrested Peralta on February 25 in Worcester. He was served with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge, who will decide whether he should be removed from the United States.
Reporting Crimes and Suspicious Activity
ICE urges members of the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity. Reports can be made by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or by completing an online tip form.
This case highlights the need for strict enforcement of immigration and public safety laws. Peralta-Matos, though initially allowed to enter the U.S. legally, has shown a consistent pattern of criminal behavior. His arrest reflects the serious consequences of breaking the law and the importance of cooperation between federal and local law enforcement. ICE and its partners remain committed to protecting communities across New England by taking firm action against those who pose a risk.
