New details released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have revealed what led to a crash on Interstate 485 in Charlotte that killed six people last summer.

NTSB Details Fatal Crash

According to the NTSB, 16-year-old Logan Sauer was driving a Honda CR-V at about 78 mph in a 70 mph zone on July 26, 2025, when the SUV suddenly moved into the right lane and struck a Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

Both vehicles spun off the roadway and crashed into the rear of a parked tractor-trailer.

Six People Killed

Sauer and five occupants of the minivan died in the crash.

The victims in the minivan were identified as:

  • Samuel Jacob Holmes, 27
  • Taylor Willis, 23
  • Brynlon Holmes, 1
  • Addyson Holmes, 3
  • Kamron Wood, 8

A 16-year-old girl in the minivan survived and was able to escape through the back of the vehicle.

THC Found in Driver’s System

The NTSB report found no alcohol in Sauer’s system. However, toxicology tests detected delta-9-THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana.

Investigators noted that THC can affect reaction time, judgment, coordination, and decision-making.

Investigation Ongoing

The crash occurred on the outer loop of Interstate 485 near the Dixie River Road overpass in west Charlotte. The NTSB investigation remains ongoing.
