A Kansas man has pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder after fatally stabbing a woman more than 60 times in front of their children last year.
Man Pleads Guilty in Fatal Stabbing
Edward A. Millan-Volcan, 26, pleaded guilty to the murder of 27-year-old Sinay Leon-Montoya and to the attempted murder of 26-year-old Germany Torres Figueroa during the July 17, 2025 attack in Wichita.
According to investigators, Leon-Montoya had called 911 shortly before the stabbing to report a domestic disturbance. Police said communication was difficult due to a language barrier, and she returned to the apartment before officers could reach her.
Victim Stabbed in Front of Children
Authorities said Millan-Volcan forced Leon-Montoya, her children and Figueroa into a bedroom, where he attacked both women.
Leon-Montoya suffered more than 60 stab wounds and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Figueroa was injured while trying to intervene and survived.
Police said the couple’s young children were present during the attack.
Sentencing Scheduled
Millan-Volcan was arrested at the scene and later charged with multiple offenses. Several charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16 and faces a minimum prison term of nearly 39 years.
